I am a proud owner of a Nokia N73 Symbian smart phone. Symbian phones are aimed at ‘power users’ that want more from their phone than a simple communication device (Some of the applications bellow will work on non-symbian phones). I would like to tell you about my favorite applications that I use on close to a daily basis.
Gmail mobile app
Point your phones web browser to gmail.com/app and download the awesome gmail mobile app. It is an application that allows you to check your gmail inbox as well as send emails.
ControlFreak
http://www.mtvoid.com/download.html ControlFreak lets you control winamp and do basic remote desktop control of your PC via bluetooth. This is a really great piece of software its easy to setup, looks great and works awesomely.
Frozen Bubble
http://fb-s60.sourceforge.net/ the Symbian version of the famous frozen bubble game.
Putty
http://s2putty.sourceforge.net/ this is the mobile version of the putty software that allows you to have remote shell access to your unix server. Its great for when you on the run and need to make a quick check or change.
Calcium
http://www.mtvoid.com/calcium/index.html a free and fast calculator for your symbian phone.
Google Maps Mobile
Go to www.google.com/gmm on your mobile browser. This is a great piece of software if you happen to get lost of dont have access to a map book. Its a bit incomplete in South Africa but it gives you an indication of where abouts you are.
Mxit
Go to www.mxit.co.za/wap on your mobile browser. This is the best mobile chat software available and a popular alternative to text messaging.
Opera Mini
http://www.operamini.com/ the best browser to get for your phone.
If you have any other essential software to add to the list, please leave a comment.
